Morley is delighted to announce the winners of The Engine Room 2025: International Sound Art Competition, following a successful Private View held on Tuesday 29 April at Morley Gallery, London.

This year鈥檚 25 finalist works, selected from over 170 submissions across more than 40 countries, represented an impressive spectrum of contemporary sound art practices鈥攆rom immersive installations and audio-visual compositions to interactive and sculptural works.

Camilo Salazar, Morley Radio Manger and co-curator of The Engine Room said:

鈥淭he judging panel, Sarah Nicolls, Mariam Rezaei, and John Richards faced a particularly difficult task this year. The standard of submissions was exceptionally high, and the breadth of ideas and technical approaches sparked long and considered discussion. Judges spent deliberating much longer than anticipated reflecting the quality and complexity of the work presented.鈥�

After careful review, the following artists were selected as this year鈥檚 prize winners:

First Prize: Katia Geha – Quartet for a Broken World (Australia)

Second Prize: Kohei Kimura – Bell of Waterfall (Germany)

Third Prize: Shira Golden 鈥� Memory Cards (USA)

The Engine Room continues 猫咪头条鈥檚 legacy as a centre for innovation in sound and experimental music. Matti Gardner, Programme Manager for Music Production at 猫咪头条 and co-curator of The Engine Room said:

The exhibition is open at Morley Gallery until 16 May 2025, with a Penny Lecture on sound art,  alongside a programme of performances, workshops led by Morley tutors and guest artists.
